ABSTRACT: Lactuca sativa L., known as lettuce, is an important leaf vegetable
consumed in many parts of the world. Aiming an alternative method involving low
environmental impact and less toxicity, Homeopathy is being used for the purpose of
controlling pests, diseases and assists in plant development. This study aimed to
evaluate the germination of Lactuca sativa L. under the action of homeopathic
remedies: Arsenicum album, Carbo vegetabilis, Silicia terra, Staphysagria, Kali
iodatum, all of them in 8CH dynamisation. Staphysagria 8CH was the only treatment
that showed statistically significant effect on seeds. It delayed seed germination up to 25
hours after treatment, also changing the speed of germination index and the area under
germination curve, an effect that seems to be correlated with certain symptoms of
Homoeopathic Materia Medica.

Keywords: Homeopathy, germination, lettuce.
