EFFECT OF HOMEOPATHIC DRUG Bryonia alba ON RESPIRATION OF EMBRYO AND ROOT APICES IN Glycine max L. Merrill. cv. BRS 232

ABSTRACT: Mitochondrial respiration in plants involves two electron transport
pathways. The first, the cytochrome oxidase (cyanide-sensitive) is coupled to three
energy conservation sites. The second, the cyanide alternative insensitive pathway
involves alternative oxidase (AOX). The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of
homeopathic drug Bryonia alba in oxygen consumption in soybean cv. BRS 232.
Respiration of embryos and root apices were measured polarographically. Total
respiration of embryos differed significantly in 24 hours after soaking. Oxygen uptake
by root apices was lower in 36 and 48h. Residual oxygen consumption (with KCN) was
significant only in the root apices in 36 and 48h.

Key words: high dilution, mitochondrial energetic metabolism.
