... the forces of vigour should not rise to the flower as they are in the metabolic sphere, because the forces of vigour only stimulate the constructive processes that are called 'anabolic' in biological sciences. At the top of the plant catabolic processes must dominate and these bring in 'destructive' processes. What rises from the lower pole of the plant must be transformed. We could picture to ourselves that the forces must pass the scrutiny of a 'guardian' who only lets the vegetative forces pass that are ready for transformation into quality. This is accomplished by the oak bark preparation. (250)
The oak-bark preparation is able to control the forces of the lower part of the plant and to prevent the ascent of tumultuous processes, caused by over-fertilisation or immature lifeless manure and foetid ... manure. (250)
In a nutshell we can say that in cases where 503 is too powerful .... and 504 is not able to regulate this sufficiently and thus pushes this excess up the plant, we would find a favorable condition for the mentioned diseases. In this context the 505 - which dampens down excessive vigour caused by 503 and raised by 504 - can play a regulating role. (250)
[505] provides what is necessary for plants to be upright and well-formed ... conferring disease resistance on crops. (294)
 
Roots
Horizontal uneven thick short roots with many root hairs were induced by solutions of 505. (29)
The best procedure [for preparing seed potatoes] would probably be to use a combination of 505 and 507 stirred together for 20 minutes (3 gallons water per each 100 pounds of less of potatoes should be sufficient) and then used to dip or spray the seed potatoes. A total of 3 separate sprays is suggested, with the first one 2 weeks before planting date, the second treatment one week beforehand and the third treatment two days before the scheduled planting. It is here that we discover the importance of the oak-bark preparation (which we have just identified with the qualitative element) because it brings a healing impulse that acts as a brake upon excessive vegetative forces by regulating their 'ascent' to the upper parts of the plant. (250)

Q: I have a stand of sweet Corn that forgot to make ears !!! It grew to an average height of 3 feet, range 1-4, and made tassels. I found only 1 out of 94 plants trying to develop an ear, and that is about 4 inches long including silks. All other plants are just short stalk with tassel. A: When this happened at my place - it was excess of 501 / 508 broadcasted atmospherically with no earth preps going out (bottom well) - (we) started with three days of 505 in both wells of the pipe - we ended up with the best ears of corn I have had here ... Seed
Vigorously stir 1 - 2 ml in 3 litres of hand warm rain water for 5 minutes and leave for 24 hours. ... germination is faster. Growth is improved and compared to untreated controls these plants prove healthier and give better yields. They are able to cope better with poor weather conditions and develop a stronger and more extensive root system. Used for oats, lettuce, potatoes, dahlias. (42)

The first was put into Knop's solution which is 250mg/l of each of magnesium sulphate, potassium phosphate and potassium chlorate, 1000 mg/l calcium nitrate and a trace of iron chlorate. The second was the same minus the calcium nitrate but with an equivalent dose of nitrogen. The third was identical to the second but also contained 100mg/l of 500, 503 and 505 instead of the nitrogen. These latter contribute approximately 2.5 mg of calcium per litre. The final was identical to the third but had no 500. Results; Knop's solution gave 2.9g of shoot, 1.5 g of root. Same minus lime gave 1.1g of shoot, 0.6g of root. same with 500, 503 and 505 gave 5.3g shoot and 3.4g of root. The same minus 500 gave 2.6g shoot and 2.2g root. (57)

The oak bark preparation will, over a period of time, raise the pH of the soil without the addition of lime. Agricultural lime applied to the land is made more effective where the oak bark preparation is used, and consequently, less lime is required. (44)
A compensation for calcium has been sought through the application of bio-dynamic preparations 500, 503 and 505. These preparations strengthen the resistance of a plant against calcium deficiency. (1041)

BD 505: Uses calcium and carbon to reduce nitrates to amino acids. Limits lush, undisciplined growth. Promotes good form. Protects against diseases and fungal attacks from the lime side-use in tandem with 508. (7)
The oak-bark collected in the autumn is energetically different from that collected in the spring. For the preparation the autumn bark must be preferred. (250)
All too often we find that a sudden spell of warm, sunny weather following a damp winter and spring causes masses of harmful organisms to appear, for example colonies of aphids. They are a sign of rampant etheric growth forces. The cosmic astral forces are too weak to keep these excessive growth forces in check. This is where the contracting forces of calcium can help, but not the acid remnant of carbonic acid (CaCO3) that is normally used. It needs a form of calcium that has structure, such as appears in the bark of the oak. (1565)
